On February 24 and 25, 2026, the ICILS 2028 Germany project team met in Frankfurt am Main for the official kick-off. The two-day meeting focused on getting to know one another, coordinating project structures, and jointly developing a work strategy for the coming years.
The kick-off marked the start of the national implementation of the fourth edition of the International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS). The study examines the digital competencies of 8th-grade students in an international comparison and is being conducted in Germany by the DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research on Education and Educational Information in collaboration with Ruhr University Bochum. In addition to computer and information-related competencies, the survey also covers computational thinking and, in this current round, has been expanded to include topics such as artificial intelligence and digital well-being. The results of the study will be published in 2029.
